More than a concert, Transylvanian Dance invites audiences into Béla Bartók's remarkable journey across the villages of Transylvania while revealing the timeless emotional power of the music he preserved.
For over 15 years, pianist Lucian Ban and violist Mat Maneri have forged one of the most distinctive artistic partnerships in contemporary improvised music, creating a singular language where Transylvanian folk traditions, European modernism and chamber jazz converge and releasing a series of acclaimed albums for ECM and Sunnyside records with some of the most important musicians in jazz from John Surman to Louis Sclavis, from Ralph Alessi to Gerald Cleaver, Tony Malaby and many others.
