Vancouver jazz vocalist, pianist & workshop facilitator Jennifer Scott!
She's a powerhouse with a rich contralto voice, born in Vancouver, Canada, and known for her fearless improv and ability to weave jazz, blues, and world music into something totally her own.
She's been a mainstay in the Canadian jazz scene for decades, performing at top festivals like Monterey and Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and sharing stages with heavyweights like Jon Batiste, Tommy Banks and Clark Terry. Her albums, like Interactive(1994) and Crossing Borders (2005), showcase her knack for reimagining standards and pop tunes-think Joni Mitchell or Sting-with a jazz twist that's soulful and fresh. She often collaborates with her husband, legendary bassist Rene Worst, and their chemistry is electric, whether in cozy clubs or big venues like the San Jose Jazz Festival. Their latest collaboration is a celebration of the music of Carla Bley and Steve Swallow.
Beyond performing, she's a passionate educator, running workshops on vocal improv and much more across North America. Her teaching’s as dynamic as her singing-she's all about storytelling through music and connecting with audiences emotionally. Fun fact: she's got this gift for languages and often scat-sings or plays with world music rhythms, giving her classes & performances a global vibe!
