Ethio-Jazz starring Beles Band, w. Special Guest Gabriel Teodros
Fresh from their sold-out show at the Fox, Beles Band combines Ethiopian & Eritrean music with western Jazz. This new group is co-led by Feven Kidane, trumpet & Nebyu Yohannes, trombone and features Haleluya Hailu on Vocals. Seattle-based rapper Gabriel Teodros will be opening the show with a special performance featuring original Ethiopian Jazz cuts.
If you’re not familiar, Ethio-jazz is a blend of traditional Ethiopian music with jazz, combining the pentatonic scale-based melodies of Amharic music with the 12-tone scale and instrumentation of western music. Over time the genre has gained popularity outside Ethiopia and grown to include elements from other genres such Afrofunk, soul, and Latin rhythms. It’s deeply funky jazz you can shake it to!
