Systems are maintained through cycling behaviour, and there is a degree of correlation between the regularity of this cycling action and the simplicity and the durability of the system… The survival of a system rests on its dialogue between going and stabilizing. It endures by grabbing hold of going and letting go and then starting over, over and over again in cycles of vibrations, oscillations, rotations, of clicks, spurts, pulses. Coherence flickers, it shimmers (though only a small range of this shimmering is perceptible to us). Noticing is transitory fixing, and memory semi-solidifies noticing. Oscillation goes down to foundational levels." (David Burrows, 2007, Time And The Warm Body, pp. 5-6)
