VEJI Plays Hugh Fraser
Known for his infectious positive energy and determination to create and support a thriving jazz scene in Vancouver, VEJI (Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation) founder Hugh Fraser sadly passed in 2020. One of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, Fraser worked with the legendary big bands of Maynard Ferguson, Slide Hampton, and Clifford Jordan, and was a multiple JUNO Award winner. He made his mark on the national scene as a pianist, trombonist, bandleader, educator, and composer, and on the local scene with his versatility, huge personality, and generous spirit.
For this special concert, a re-formed VEJI is proud to celebrate his musical legacy. Featuring many original members of the band, and under the direction of composer/conductor/trumpeter and close friend of Hugh, Bill Clark, this ensemble will be performing many of Hugh's most-loved compositions.
